Mekigah are a solo project from Australia that plays a mixture of funeral doom, death metal, gothic, dark ambient and drone with a touch of black metal and this is a review of his 2014 album "Litost" which was released by Aesthetic Death.
Ambient style noises start off the album along with some soundscapes and after awhile the music starts getting more distorted, avant garde and experimental sounding and when guitars are utilized they give the music more of a primitive doom metal feeling and a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
Synths are a very huge part of the recording and the vocals also bring in high pitched screams that add element s of black metal onto the recording while they mostly stick to a death metal style of growling and the songs also bring in a brief use of whispers and spoken word parts at times and the riffs also bring in some melodies in a good portion of the tracks and the songs also mix elements of noise in with the guitars while later songs also bring in a small amount of cello's acoustic guitars and semi melodic vocals.
Mekigah plays a musical style that is mostly in an experimental and dark ambient direction but also mixes in elements of funeral doom, death and black metal along with a great amount of drones to create an album that is very heavy yet original at the same time, the production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover death themes.
In my opinion Mekigah are a very great sounding mixture of funeral doom, death metal, gothic, dark ambient and drone and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Sole Dwelling" "By Force Of Breath" "Circuitous Revenge" and "An Overbearing Insanity". 8 out of 10.
